On one sunny afternoon in a field in Owasso, Oklahoma, Kira and Jon perfectly embodied the excitement, joy, and anticipation they had for the next chapter of their lives. Surrounded by nothing but an open field, the warm breeze, the setting sun, and the joy radiating from them, this was not only a maternity shoot. This was a celebration of new life and an overflow of love shining within each photograph.

When the Light is Just Right: The Beauty of Shooting at Golden Hour
We began the shoot when the sun was still brightly shining above us, until it slowly started to set. We were surrounded by a field bathed in the warmth of a late afternoon sun slowly transitioning into the beauty of a rich golden hour.
An authentic photoshoot is always my goal. Forget the white walls of a studio, but think about the sky above, the rays of the sun illuminating the photographs, and the beauty of nature, all harmonizing with you and creating a natural, organic feel. It was the perfect setting for Kira and Jon because, like the setting, they radiated light, tender love, and a space for their story to unfold even more.
Poses That Shine in Owasso’s Open Fields
I live for the unscripted moments. Those instances where their personalities shine through, and you can truly feel how ecstatic they are. Complemented by the sun, the parents-to-be glowed with pure adoration in their eyes, their touches warm, their silly antics contagious, and love radiating everywhere. Jon even showed us his own belly right alongside hers! This was all about showing who they truly were as parents-to-be and the love that would envelop their child.
Glow in your Maternity Photos
What kind of narrative are you trying to tell? For this golden hour shoot in Owasso, their clothes complemented the earthy tones of the field and the setting sun. The deep colors of their outfits harmonized with the muted tones of the natural landscape surrounding them. And while style is important, their outfits allowed for ease and movement, enabling them to freely move and express themselves. The outfits you wear for your maternity shoot complement the environment, creating a visual harmony that is effortless, authentic, and timeless.
Capturing the Glow: A Guide to Planning Your Maternity Session
At around the third trimester, your baby bump is prominently and beautifully visible, and the mother-to-be is still comfortable enough to be in photos without feeling exhausted. This way, both of them get to ease into the shoot, move freely, and stay in the moment. Photoshoots like these are more than just producing photographs; they are an art form in themselves. Rather, it's a time to stay in the moment, a time to cherish memories, and a time to truly appreciate what’s to come. With the comfort they had and the emotions Kira and Jon were experiencing, I was able to capture both of them in a fully radiant state.
